Confederacy, Athens, Ga., Paid 10. Handstamps with matching "Athens, Ga." cds on patriotic cover with 8-Star Flag design in red, white & blue, addressed to "Lieut. John B. Cobb, Cobbs Georgia Legion, Richmond, Va.", reduced at right, Very Fine and choice, a very rare 8-Star flag design as Arkansas was admitted as the 9th state only 11 days after Virginia had been admitted as the 8th State on May 7, 1861. Estimate  $750 - 1,000. The owner states that this is a provisional usage with the following write up, "A cover just like this one contains the note, 'Andrew had these envelopes stamped & I am obliged to use them or loose the postage.'". $0 (Image)
