Confederacy, Athens, Ga., 1861, 5¢ purple, two singles in different shades, both stamps are Type I (left stamp tiny corner crease & light toning (both in top left corner margin only), both stamps with large margins with the right stamp slightly overlapping the left stamp) cancelled by light grids with the Athens, Ga,/Jan. 3/Paid cds at the lower left, cover is from the Cobb Correspondence addressed to Lieut John A. Cobb, Cobb Georgia Legion, Yorktown, Virginia, cover is very clean with a minor reduction at the right, Very Fine and choice, The cover is considered to be one of the finest examples of a double rate franking of the Athens Provisional stamps still extant.; with 2007 P.F. certificate.
