Printed Propaganda Patriotic design (Dietz PS-1) on cover used after Session franked with vert. pair United States 1857 3¢ dull red (s.e. at left), tied by grid cancels with Athens, Ga./Mar. 5 (1861) cds, addressed to Marion, Ala., adhesives originally affixed over design and moved to reveal the complete design, flap missing, Extremely Fine. Estimate $1,500 - 2,000. This Propaganda design is reportedly one of two known examples and one of the rarest of all Confederate Patriotics.Throughout the war the Confederate government hoped to use international commerce to raise hard money and influence other nations to support the Southern cause. Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.
