Dec 27 1863" cds on homemade brown cover to Wright's Bluff S.C., pencil "Due 8" indicating that cover was not accepted for the circular rate probably due to writing on the circular; stamp barely affected by light horizontal file fold (not mentioned on cert), otherwise Very Fine and interesting use; with 2009 C.S.A. certificate. May 22 186 " cds to short-paid 1862 mourning cover to Greenville, S.C., red crayon "Due 3"; two vertical creases, reduced at right, cds overinked at top, F.-V.F. Scott No. 3  $3,500. A RARE USAGE OF THE 1863 2¢ GREEN WITH DUE MARKING TO MAKE THE 5¢ RATE FOR UNDER 500 MILES. We offered one other example of this use in our sale 43 lot 463. This is a good example of why the color of the 5¢ stamp was changed from green to blue in 1862. $0 (Image)
