Confederacy, "Camp Hampton, June 1st 1861", dateline on CSA patriotic seven-star flag letterhead with some interesting content, accompanied by original cover addressed to Mrs. M. E. Carrere at Charleston S.C., blue "Columbia S.C. Jun 3" cds and matching "Paid" in circle and "5" rating handstamps; reduced slightly at right, part of side flap missing, F.-V.F. Estimate  $500 - 750. LETTER WAS DATELINED ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE CONFEDERATE POSTAL SYSTEM, BUT MAILED TWO DAYS LATER AT COLUMBIA S.C. Letter with some interesting content, "We arrived here after a pleasant nights ride, which was enlivened by cheers and shouts from almost every station, and at one by a band of music… The company was escorted from the railroad by the College Cadets and a five mile company, through the city and left them to proceed to the residence of Col. Hampton, two miles distant. The Captain…detailed me as baggage guard, which gave me the opportunity of riding to encampment…I was drawn through the streets of Columbia by a team of six - (mules); and took possession of 'Camp Hampton' alone in my glory…". $0 (Image)
