Colombia, 1859 1p rose on bluish, Coat of Arms. Unused without gum as usual, good impression with four margins all around, a lovely Very Fine example of this scarce stamp, One of only no more than 15 examples of this stamp in existence, most of them being in inferior conditions with various faults. The catalogue value of this stamp is greatly underestimated.

Clear to large margins, canceled by manuscript cancels on judicial wrapper front and part back to Quito, with "Riobamba, 16 Nov" origin cds and manuscript "32 oz" weight notation; couple tears affecting a few stamps, otherwise Very Fine, a spectacular large multiple usage, ex-Longhi, with 2009 Moorhouse certificate.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r yellow buff, vertical strip of nine. Positions 9//81, positions 9 & 18 with embossed arms variety. In combination with 1865 ½r blue, embossed arms on Judicial front and bottom flap to Chimbo, all tied by "Riobamba, 27 Mars, 6" cds's; front with vertical file fold affecting third stamp in strip, otherwise Very Fine, ex-Saá and Longhi, with 2011 Moorhouse certificate.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r green, embossed arms, horizontal pair. Ample to huge margins showing portion of adjacent stamp at left, positions 89-90 with full embossing on right stamp which extends slightly into frameline of left stamp, plate flaws in position 90 showing colorless spot in bottom right spandrel and broken frameline at right, tied by neat "Guayaquil, 13 Mar, 66" cds on fresh folded letter to Lima, Peru, receiving backstamp, Very Fine and choice, one of less than five recorded examples of the 1r green embossed arms variety on cover and one of the earliest usages to a foreign destination, ex-Funkhouser and Longhi.

AN EXTREMELY RARE USAGE OF THE 1R GREEN WITH EMBOSSED ARMS USED ON COVER TO A FOREIGN DESTINATION.

A considerable portion of maritime mail to Peru before autumn of 1866 was carried through the British P.O. at Guayaquil, without the involvement of the Ecuadorian mails. This example being one of the exceptions in this period not carried through the British Post Office.
