POSTAL HISTORY: 1952 (Nov 1) social cover endorsed "From Jahmin/Home Island/Cocos Keeling/co GPO Perth" on the flap, to Ceylon with Straits 10c pair tied by Malay-pattern 'COCOS/ISLANDS' cds, with the enclosed letter signed "Jahamin". Very scarce non-Leigh Parkin mail from the islands.

POSTAL HISTORY: 1908 (Jan 13) Thursday Island real photo picture postcard to "E.E. Tel Coy, Shanghai, China" with Queensland 1d orange tied by largely fine strike of 'THURSDAY ISLAND/QUEENSLAND' unframed cds, received via the German Post Office with 'SCHANGHAI/5.2/08/DEUTSCHE POST' cds, China 'SHANGHAI/FEB 6/08/LOCAL POST' cds (where re-addressed in Chinese characters) and British Post Office 'SHANGHAI/FE 7/08/B.P.O.' cds where re-directed to "Cocos Keeling Islands, c/- Supt Singapore" with 'SINGAPORE/FE 17/1908' transit cds alongside, a couple of very minor transmission marks. [In 1901, the Eastern Extension, Australasia & China Telegraph Co extended its submarine cable across the Indian Ocean via Rodrigues & Cocos]
