#MR3, 1917 "WAR STAMP 1½d" Surcharge on 2½d Deep blue, fresh block of four cancelled by centrally struck double circle "Georgetown/Grand Cayman/Oc 9, 17" datestamp, nicely centered, deep rich color, very fine and choice; it is believed that only 420 copies of this rejected surcharge were sold, of these very few indeed were used, this block with a favor postmark is the only recorded used block of four (S.G. #55; £8,000 for singles). #MR3, 1917 "WAR STAMP 1½d" Surcharge on 2½d Deep blue, a very rare franking by a left sheet-margin single and a 3d Violet on yellow George V tied by separate strikes of "Georgetown/Grand Cayman/My 3, 26" double circle datestamp to registered cover to England, violet boxed Grand Cayman registry handstamp, double oval "Kingston - Jamaica/Registered?My 15, 26" transit, "Registered/London E.C./31 My 26" and "Registered/Norwood S.E. 19" arrival backstamps, very fine; it is believed that only 420 stamps were sold and of these very few were ever used, this is one of only two full covers known, plus there is a cover front franked with this surcharge; an essential cover for the serious Cayman Islands collector or the War Tax issues specialist.
