Newfoundland, 1897, ½¢-5¢ Royal Family issue complete, "Specimen" overprints. Complete set of 47 different including the 2¢ rose carmine (86) that was issued to protect against illicit use of #82 examples lost at sea but washed ashore, each with punch hole, accompanied by the listing that includes 12 different SPECIMEN styles, o.g., never hinged, F.-V.F. set.

In 1990, the American Bank Note Co. archives were opened and sold by Christies at auction. Many of the items sold were seen by those outside of the A.B.N.C. for the first time. Edward Wener, of Indigo, purchased the complete inventory of the 1897 Royal Family Issue, with many of these items range in quantities of 100-400 produced. Careful study is required to see differences in the 12 different SPECIMEN types.
