Collection of 16 Transatlantic Stampless Covers and Letters, 1830s to 1870s, with one incoming, but rest addressed to England, Scotland and Ireland, mailed from a variety of post offices on this side of the pond, mainly in Upper Canada. We note some interesting rate handstamps such as "8PAID10", "1/2" (on Crimean War era cover), Glasgow Packet, some RPO datestamps (incl. a large double circle Montréal & Island Pond), and more. Noted an 1842 folded letter to England from Vittoria ("1829" Type). A good quality group, written-up on pages explaining rates, routes, etc. All pages are scanned online, ex Liptak collection. Group of 64 Stampless Folded Letters or Covers, 1799 to 1890s, a very nice lot with a variety of interesting postmarks, including manuscript precursor (for example an unrecorded 1851 Cayuga), a yellow Saint Peters Bay PEI / PAID, some 1829 types, some double circles, including a very nice Dunnville U.C italic in red, some Trans-Atlantic (both ways), Money Letters, a Québec and a Kingston Steam Boat Letter, a St John's and a Québec Fleuron, a New Mills Way Office NB, several small towns and much more. Overall condition is fine or better, we highly recommend seeing this one in person to better appreciate its contents. (Image)

Group of 6 Better Stampless Folded Letters, 1855 money letter from Orillia (two weeks prior to the inauguration of registered mail), 1832 letter between Postmasters at Youngstown NY and Queenston (re. a cover which was mis-directed and a fine to pay), 1841 Guelph precursor manuscript, 1829 Perth “1829 Type” on Cash Letter rated 1N10 (very fine strike), 1825 Perth straightline handstamp (fine strike), and 1821 Kingston two-line straightline handstamp (faint strike). A fine to very fine group with desirable postmarks, etc. All covers scanned both sides. (Image)

Group of 43 Stampless Folded Letters or Covers, a great lot for the postmark collector, with its mostly clear town cancels, mostly from Upper Canada, but noted some from Lower Canada, such as an 1821 Grenville precursor manuscript cancel on a folded letter datelined "Britannia, Ottawa River" written by Lieutenant John Le Breton. Also note several useful rate markings, such as a "Paid at Montreal / ½", free frankings, a favour letter, etc. A few covers are addressed to the United States (incl. one to Kennedy) and one to England, rest are domestic. Overall condition is average for this type of group, see our online pictures for a sampling. (Image)

Collection of 31 "Pence Era" Stampless Folded Letters and Covers, 1818 to 1859, all written-up on album pages, we note a good variety of material including an 1818 York straightline on folded letter, 1823 folded letter York to Sandwich, an 1853 folded letter from Gananoque with two locally-made rate handstamps, several double broken circles, c.d.s. and a good assortment of rates and rate markings (this was a rate marking exhibit) with all sorts of paid and unpaid markings and rates. A few faults, still an overall fine to very fine collection. Ex Andrew Liptak collection. (Image)
