At the same time Rawdon, Wright & Edson was losing the United States postage stamp contract it obtained a similar agreement to produce the first Canadian postage stamps. Canada agreed to this arrangement on March 27, 1851 and the parties entered into a formal contract on June 21, 1851. This contract called for the production of 3 pence, 6 pence and 12 pence stamps.
