Canada, 1857, Queen Victoria, ½d Rose, horizontal strip of six, full margins except slightly in at bottom, tied and canceled by neat strikes of concentric-ring cancel on folded letter to Montreal, matching "St. Eustache C.E., MR 12 1858" cds, Montreal (3.13) arrival backstamp, Very Fine and choice use of strip to prepay the 3¢ single letter rate for up to ½ ounce., ex-Wellburn, Kanee, Cantor. SG No. 17. Scott No. 8  Estimate $4,000 - 6,000. A RARE USE OF A STRIP OF SIX ½D STAMPS TO PAY THE 3D DOMESTIC RATE. The ½d stamps were used for domestic letters as consumers were fond of this denomination and they could be purchased at a 5% discount when at least 20 stamps were bought. $0 (Image)
