Selection of Covers, incl Oct 1861 Charleston stampless w/ PAID 5 in circle, #1 green tied by Arbor Hill, VA cds, #2 Richmond cds & pen cancel; #2b dark blue Jan 1862 Tennessee black cds, to Mobile; #4 Stone 3 pair (not tied) w/ Virginia cancel; #5 tied by large 1863 Norfolk cds, ms "in hast," (6) covers franked w/ pair #6 or 7, two are mourning; #11 (3) covers, couple shades; #12 June 17, 1863 Richmond Cobham VCRR; finally a stampless w/ black "Due 10," ms at UR indicates a soldier; (8) of the covers are addressed to Major Alfred Rives or his wife, at Richmond or Cobham Depot, Rives was a railroad engineer for the CSA, his daughter, born during the time of these #11 covers, was a writer whose godfather was Robert E Lee & Oscar Wilde later introduced her to her 2nd husband, a Russian prince; some notations by Rives about promotions on the face of a cover; overall interesting group but expect flts in stamps & envs, F+ (Image)
