Davis"/East Gulf Squadron/Key West (Fla.)". Cover opened cleanly at left. The U.S. bark "James L. Davis" was a schooner in the blockade around Florida during the Civil War and in early August 1864 had destroyed the Craig Sugar Mill at Ellenton, Fl. (Image)

Nicholson/No. 139 South Seventh Street/Philadelphia, Penna." The corner card is 2-line text "MILITARY ORDER OF THE LOYAL LEGION OF THE UNITED STATES/COMMANDERY OF THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA". Pencil notation on left edge of cover "SHERIDANS DEATH." General Sheridan was National Commander of the organization from 1886-1888, dying in office.
