156, 158, 1¢ Ultramarine and 3¢ Green Strip of 4, on 1880 registered cover, 1¢ Avg, 3¢ Fine with right stamp having clipped perfs from scissor-cut opening. 1¢ pmk "SAN DIEGO/JUL/18/1880/TEX.", rest ms cancel; sender George E. Pond (later to become Brigadier General Pond) to his brother Ensign Charles Pond (to become Rear Admiral Pond) at the "USS Hassler" in San Francisco and then forwarded to "Smith Ranch". USS Hassler was actually CS (Coastal Survey) vessel, the Coastal Survey being the fore-runner to today's NOAA. Back stamp four-line "SAN FRANCISCO/CAL./JUL 28 1880/REGISTERED/: Condition is very good though scissors were used to open envelope and no contents. Nice! (Image)

220, 2¢ Carmine on commercial cover (2) from Pike, Texas DPO, stamps faulty with scuffs and missing paper, 1st cover has cds "PIKE/APR/16/1894/TEX." Second cover has cds "PIKE/MAY/29/1894/TEX." Both back-stamped with cds "LEONARD/APR/16/1894/TEX." and LEONARD/../../../" (mostly indistinct). Pike Post Office was established in 1885 and discontinued in 1932. Condition is fair with some stains, ragged edges and tone spots (Image)

Second tied to cover with cds "KENNEDY SPACE CENTER/JUL26/AM/1971" which is the launchdate for Apollo 15. Cachet by "BREVARD PRINTING CO." and appears to be scarce/rare.
