Cover has some flts; roughly opened at R, two tears at btm, small stain on front L & R, wrinkles along btm edge and reverse was used to solve a math problem. Overall, a bit "dirty", still a scarce item, for you see a few YMCA covers but rarely an American Red Cross WWI cover. (Image)

Cachet is lgt blue text hand-stamp "NEWARK/WELCOMES/DR. ALBERT FORSYTHE/AND/C.ALFRED ANDERSON/FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL NEGRO FLYERS/SEPTEMBER 23rd, 1933/...." Anderson and Forsythe flew from Atlantic City to Los Angeles and back to become the first Black aviators to do so. Anderson is considered "The Father of Black Aviation". Receiving stamp on reverse is dc cds "...indistinct EX./SEP/25/A.M./GEN.DEL." (presumably Dallas, Texas as addr.) Return addr hand-stamp (same color as front) in Newark. Cover is sgnd at L of cachet by "CHARLES (CHAS.) F ANDERSON/LITTLE AMERICA", who is the Post Office Department Employee sent to Antarctica mid-year to rescue the philatelic mail effort at Little America. The Annette Island base was started in 1940 w/the first plane landing in September 1941, though the field wasn't completed until March 1942. It was constructed mainly by the Civilian Conservation Corp. The cover is addressed to S.E. HUTNICK, MD. in Philadelphia, who was a cachet maker of mostly Naval Covers. We believe this cover commemorates either first day of postal service at the airfield or the first plane landing at the airfield. Further research needed. Unfortunately no cachet (Image)
