490, 1¢ Green on Masonic commercial cover, stamp flty (R edge torn off), tied to cvr by cds "ANAMOSA IOWA/DEC3/6-11/1917" w/flag killer. C/C consists of symbols (square & compass) and text "THE/NATIONAL MASONIC RESEARCH SOCIETY/ANAMOSA, IOWA". Addr to "MR. J.W. BARBER/BEAUKISS, TEXAS" who, at one point, was Senior Warden of Post Oak Island Lodge #181. George Schoonover started the Research Society in his hometown of Anamosa in 1914. It was moved to St. Louis in 1921. Cover in very good condition, flap opened neatly, corners have slight creases and small stains on the front. Nice thematic item! (Image)
