1862 Captured Union Patriotic cover "Washington Mounted on Horse" (Walcott No. 67) blue Patriotic design on cover to Memphis, Tenn. with balloon type cds of Corinth, Miss. Apr. 10 on reverse, with both "Due 5" manuscript and Memphis "Due 5" handstamp on front, magenta soldier's endorsement at top from L.S. Lake in Co. C, 13th Regiment Tennessee Volunteers, cover silked on the inside and lightly cleaned, v.f. appearance, ex-Everett and Monroe (Pictured in his book, page 30) (the sender has crossed out the "Union" inscription at the bottom of design, to make clear his Southern sentiments and has added at top left of design the manuscript notation "Taken From Yankees". (Private L.S. Lake of the 13th Tennessee, had just fought at the Battle of Shiloh (April 6-7), in which the regiment sustained 137 casualties, which might be one of the reasons why he deserted his unit at Corinth on April 25, 1862. He returned to his regiment, but again deserted at Shellyville, Tenn. on May 10, 1862) (Image)

1862 captured Union Patriotic, turned cover, first use (inside) with 10c blue (Archer-Daly), four margins tied by Tawboro N.C. March 18 cds to Louisburg, N.C. Second use, with 10c (Archer-Daly), tied by Louisburg cds and addressed to Miss A. C. Parker, Tawboro, N.C. The outside use shows a large embossed colorless oval regimental shield design for the 12th Mass Regt. Col Fletcher Webster. The second use stamp has been placed over a portion of the Union Patriotic design (Col Fletcher Webster, oldest son of Daniel Webster was commissioned Colonel of the 12th Mass Inf. and was killed-in-action at 2nd Manassas (Bull Run) on 30th August 1862). The cover has not been flapped or cut to display the inside usage, some toning, signed Brian Green and John Kimbrough. A fine CSA turned adversity usage of a captured Union patriotic (Cat No. 11) (Image)

1862 Captured Union Patriotic - "Corn (not Cotton) is King", patriotic design in red showing "Farmer Harvesting Corn" on cover to Athens, Ga., franked with horizontal pair of 5c blue (four margins, each repaired with piece added), manuscript numeral "24" (date) cancel, tied by matching "Larkinsville, Ala. Nov. 24" (1862) manuscript postmark, v.f. appearance. Despite the repaired stamps this is one of the most attractive Captured Union patriotic used in the Confederate States, ex-Tate collection (Cat No. 4) (Image)
