(CSA) 1864 Texas Con, Stampless Folded Letter, with "ALTO/TEX" cds ccl at left and ms "12" inside. Also, with ms "paid 10" in upper right corner, addressed to "Mrs. S.C. Dowdle/Gatesville/Coryell Co/Tex." Contains 3-page letter from David M. Dowdle (Dowdell) (signed twice with different spellings). Talks of Gen. Taylor being relieved of command, Gen. Smith, Col. King becoming Brig. Gen., various family and friends, his health and to returning back to war soon. Very scarce postal usage, Texas history and Civil War. Transcript made (Image)
