1841 NIAGARA-UC to KINGSTON "SPLIT RATE", dated JUL10-1841 from the NIAGARA Collector of Duties and addressed to the Canada Receiver General in KINGSTON that was the first Capital City of Canada effective 5 months earlier on FEB10-1841, the letter contained £18-3sh Ccy with no MONEY-LETTER endorsement, routing via STEAMBOAT to TOTONTO on JUL 10th but missed the train noting a TOO LATE marking then FORWARDED on JUL 11th, split-rated COLLECT 4½d for the under 60 mile ship delivery to Toronto + COLLECT 6½d to make up the full 11d rate for the total 242 mile distance to KINGSTON, a detailed description of the scarce "split-rate" is included with the lot, all cancels are readable but a bit light, F-VF est ($100+ US) (Image)
