1838 CANADA to USA REDIRECTED, unpaid SFL dateline Cornwall-(UC) on OCT22-1838 and addressed to lumber baron George Reddington at his Waddington-NY home, Reddington was well known in Cornwall which was a stopover for his lumber rafts enroute to Montreal, the letter was subsequently endorsed via the West-Williamsburg-UC post office and sent at the COLLECT 4½d Canada rate for the 33 mile distance thereby saving Reddington the extra 6¢ USA delivery from the border to his home, note a nice Prichard & Andrews 1829 issue Cornwall cancel on OCT23-1922 and an interesting business enclosure, the lot includes Reddington's biography, F-VF est ($100+US) (Image)

1870 ACTON-UC MISSENT REGISTERED, blue double split ring Acton h/s dated OCT22-1870 on a cover to Milton-ONT lawyer W. Laidlaw, routing via Georgetown-CW the same day and Hamilton-West-CW with a red transit b/s on OCT 24th, an unusual 75 mile routing for two towns only 12 miles apart, the letter was likely missent from Georgetown since Georgetown to Milton was only 14 miles, no stamps were available and 3¢ postage and 2¢ registration fee were paid in cash, small cover reduction RHS, ex-Steinhart F-VF est ($75+US) (Image)
