1877 (Sep 18) Entire sent registered to London with 1863-77 perf.12 1/2 4d bright rose and 6d lilac pair, tied by "A05" barred ovals with Nassau registered cds at lower left, endorsed at top left "Registered" with ms "1" and "5", very fine and attractive, a very rare and important franking, possibly the earliest recorded franked mail from the Bahamas; cert. 1880 (Feb 2) Advertising cover for the Royal Victoria Hotel in Nassau, sent to the USA with a very fine 1863 4d dull rose perf.14 neatly tied by "A05" barred oval, sent before the Bahamas joined the UPU (they joined 1st July 1880) and hence franked on arrival with US pre-cancelled 3c postage due (Scott J3), New York arrival adjacent and reverse with despatch cds, some minor soiling and horizontal cover bend at foot, a little reduced at left, very scarce with US postage dues as they were only issued in 1879 leaving a 13 month window of usage let alone on an illustrated cover. 1884 (Jan 29) envelope to the USA with 1882 4d rose perf.12 tied by "B" barred oval and Norfolk PA transit, with "SHIP" framed hs adjacent, underpaid with "DUE" hs and ms"4" with a pair of pen-cancelled US postage due 2c above (Scott J16, being a very early usage as only issued in 1884) , reverse with despatch and Denver (Colorado) arrival, fine and attractive franking; cert. 1884 (May) 4d postal stationery envelope (H&G 1) sent registered to Russia, uprated with 1882 1d perf.12 pair, each cancelled by "A05" barred ovals, sent via London with Crown registered hs and oval reg'd ds, with reverse showing Moscow arrivals, a very rare usage of the first Bahamas postal stationery envelope with the Perkins Bacon issue and an unusual destination. 1884 (Jul 28) envelope from Nassau to Inagua, with 1882 1d perf.12 tied by "A05" barred oval, addressed to Stephen Dillet (son of the former postmaster at Nassau) on board the lighthouse tender Richmond to the care of the Postmaster of Inagua, and returned to Nassau as the Richmond had already left, with reverse showing Nassau New Providence despatch, Bahamas AU 9 code "A" arrival, and a further Nassau AU 28 cds on return, some foxing, a rare cover with only five or six inter-island covers franked with a 1d recorded, and this being the earliest recorded example of the Bahamas datestamp used on an out island, an important item of Bahamas postal history.
