1914 Flight Under Auspices of "Ligue Nationale Aerienne" between Cairo and Khartoum by aviator Marc Pourpe, this stationery entire envelope addressed to Paris originating in Khartoum and additionally franked with 2m and 3m Camel, tied by an indistinct T.P.O. date cancel, nice strike of the "POSTE AERIENNE / CAIRE-KHARTOUM / L.N.A. MARC POURPE 1913-14" cachet, backstamped Aswan Station 11.1.14, Paris arrival 17 Janv 14, backflap tear, fine and rare classic Egypt/Sudan aviation cover, ex-Garrett (Marc Pourpe took part in an early "Aviation Week" held in 1914, in Heliopolis, near Cairo from January 2 through 12, 1914. While there he made the first airmail flight in Egypt, flying the 1250 miles from Cairo to Khartoum from January 4 to the 12th, with stops in Luxor, Wadi Halfa and Abu Hamed) (Image)
