1900 cover sent on February 22, 1900 within the besieged Ladysmith, franked with a pair of Great Britain 1/2p Army Officials, tied by a special "Ladysmith Siege Post Office" datestamp, v.f. (the Siege of Ladysmith lasted for 118 days. The Population, civilian and military, numbered 21,156 and they were to suffer the ravages of disease and starvation on an unprecedented scale. The English broke through the Boer positions on February 27th, 1900 and the first party of the relief column, under Major Hubert Gough and which included Winston Churchill, rose into Ladysmith on the evening of 28th February) (Image)
