1824 FL with full contents, sent from Hobart to London, endorsed "Per Allies Capt. Kirton Jan 19 1824", with "Ship Letter Falmouth" handstamp, ms "3/4", interesting contents discuss "the intention of establishing a bank here upon the same principles as the one at Sydney and having received Sir Thomas Brisbane's approval", some sources state that the "Bank of Van Diemen's Land" was established in 1823 but this letter suggests it was early 1824, as stated by Graeme Petterwood in "Tasmania Tokens Revisited", ex-Tinsley and Peace (Image)

1849 (6 Jan) FL sent by Charles Meredith (Member of Tasmanian Parliament who twice served as Colonial Treasurer) in Great Swan Port (Tasmania) to Thomas McQuoid in Waniassa (what is now a suburb of Canberra), endorsed "Sea Postage Paid 5d" and "Swansea 6.1.49", with tombstone Paid and Sydney arrival, fine. Mr. McQuoid was one of the first settlers in what became known as the Australian Capital Territory, ex Dr. Ed Druce who stated "This is the earliest known letter associated with the A.C.T" (Image)

1828 FL with full contents, sent from Great Britain to Newcastle, Carmarthenshire, South Wales, rated "1/8" with "Ship Letter Plymouth" handstamp on reverse, some slight stains, still fine, the letter speaks of "our leaving Port Macquarie within 30 miles of Parramatta" and of assisting a minister of religion to leave the UK for New South Wales as a missionary where "he could get board and lodging" and "we want godly men in the country", etc. (Image)
