China, 1949 (10 May) envelope from Lanchow to Kalimpong, India (bank's receiving d.s. of 29 June) bearing on reverse Gold Yuan Dr. Sun Yat-sen Shanghai Dah Tung flat plate printing $10,000 grey-brown lower sheet margin blocks of two hundred (3, one stamp torn away), cancelled by bilingual c.d.s., the envelope has suffered considerable damage from the weight of the franking and the stamps have some faults/defects as to be expected, the Gold Yuan $6,000,000 rate corresponds to Silver Yuan 40 cents, undoubtedly one of the largest, if not the largest, surviving multiple frankings, with a total of 599 stamps and only one stamp missing.
