Stamps. 1936 Berlin unadopted essays group, quite possibly essays that were submitted to the Reichsdruckerei as a proposal for the Olympic issue, with three blocks of seven photographic essays stuck on perforated paper showing different designs of various sports with very Germanic designs as well as three similar single photographic essays showing a German athlete in front of the stadium with varying legends, in the same format as essays known to have been submitted (e.g. see lot 20338 from our December 2021 Olympic auction), includes photocopy of a letter from the Director of the Reichs Printing Works so seems to be one of the series by A. Kolb of Leipzig, the lot also includes 14 singles and 5 mini sheets with the same designs but have been printed much later, plus a more modern mini sheet with a design showing Jesse Owens coming out of the starting blocks at the Olympics. 1936 Olympic Torchbearer 12pf + 6pf carmine-red, complete unopened coil roll of 300 stamps with approx. 30 coil joins, showing lead strip with imprinted and manuscript information: “Olympiamarken 300 Stück zu 12 + 6 Rpf / (ms “25./6. 36”) Wert: 54 RM (ms “14909”)”“Schlußstreifen zu 4 Marken=blättchen” (handstamped number & signature) Note: The German Post office made the coil by cutting sheets into strips of ten, and then connecting the strips by coil joins or tabs on the reverse, these coils were made especially for vending machines. Group of documents about the stamps and cancellations, incl. 6 pages of extracts from the "Amtsblatt des Reichspostministeriums. Bekantmachungen der Deutschen Reichspost" (Official Gazette of the Reich Ministry. Announcements of the Deutsche Reichspost) for the Olympic set, postal stationery, telegrams for Olympians as well as an A4 flyer for the service, an article about the pictorial cancels, three contemporary clippings about the mobile post offices introduced for the Games and the number of letters posted at the Games, etc., and a receipt from the Olympic Post Office.
