FIRST DAY COVERS: 2d Recess, 2d Letterpress, 3d blue & 5/- dark green tied by 'REGISTERED/ 14MR32/SYDNEY' cds to a slightly oversized (165x109mm) buff envelope ACSC 148ya, registered to "Tai PO Market/Hong Kong/China" with blue & black R label on face and red wax seal on reverse, presumably found open with 'GENERAL POST OFFICE/HONG KONG/OFFICIALLY [Arms] SEALED' blue/white label affixed across the top edge (partially over two stamps) tied by 'REGISTERED/12AP/32/G.P.O. HONG KONG' cds, a few minor aging marks from gum residue around the perfs of the stamps, otherwise very fine, Cat $8000. The ACSC states that "Only three [first day] covers have been recorded bearing all four stamps", this being the only one of them to an exotic destination.

FIRST DAY COVERS: 2d Recess, 2d Letterpress, 3d blue & 5/- dark green tied to plain cover by 'PARRAMATTA/14MR32/NSW' cds as ACSC 148ya but a fake, all stamps are extremely well centred, a couple of very minor blemishes. The ACSC states "Collectors should be aware of dangerous fakes". Ex Arthur Gray; sold for $2261. About 30 years ago, a small group of similar First Day Covers appeared on the market. Prior to that time, only three First Day Covers bearing all four stamps had been recorded, and concerns were expressed about the recent 'find'. Eventually, the infamous Sydney forger George Gee Ma (aka Georgie Gee, and several other aliases) was unmasked as the perpetrator of the swindle. Arthur Gray acquired this cover after the forgery had been exposed.

OPENING OF THE BRIDGE: 5/- dark green affixed to Telegram Form tied by largely very fine strike of 'SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE S.E. PYLON/21FE32', pen notation "Am sending this way for safety/Gwen", the stamp very fine, the form with a couple of aging marks (not affecting the stamp), repaired upper-right corner, a few folds & blemishes, Cat $400 for postally used (£225 for CTO). The form was not used to send a telegram: we expect it was folded over to protect the stamp "for safety". The date presumably should have read '22MR', the Postal Clerk not turning the wheels far enough to register the correct day. Michael Kino states that "this is the only known use of a 5/- on a telegram [form]".
