1863, 2¢ black. O.g., lightly hinged, outstanding centering within large even margins, rich shade and proof-like impression, an Extremely Fine gem,ex-V. Morris, with 1990, 1994 P.F. & 2006 P.S.E. certificates, the last Graded (XF 90, SMQ $1,400), only six mint examples are graded higher, all at "95". Scott No. 73; $350.
A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL GUM 1863 2¢ "BLACK JACK", GRADED XF 90 BY P.S.E.
Despite being a relatively common stamp mint, the Black Jack is notorious for being off-centered. This gem example is a true condition rarity.
1863, 2¢ black. Tied by beautiful strike of Star within Star in Circle fancy cancel with "Petersburg Va. Oct. 30" cds on small piece, small faults, Extremely Fine strike and a gorgeous item,ex-Jack Dick, Haas, Metzger and Faust, with 2018 P.F. certificate. Skinner-Eno No. ST-St 29. 1863, 2¢ black. Cancelled by large Blue Star within Circle, nicely centered with large margins, Extremely Fine and attractive, a very pretty stamp with this blue fancy cancel,ex-Grunin and Haas, with 2002 P.F. certificate. Scott No. 73; Estimate $500 - 750.

The Washington D.C. stamp dealer Carl F. Rothfuchs obtained a quantity of these stamps in 1893 and sold them bearing the four horizontal pen marks.
1862, 5¢ red brown. Full o.g., well centered and nice margins especially for this notoriously off centered and typically tight margin issue, fresh with wonderful rich deep color not often found in such intensity, Extremely Fine, with 1984 & 2000 P.F. certificates. Scott No. 75; $5,750.

1862, 5¢ red brown. Full central "Paid" in lozenge cancel, perfect centering amid large beautifully balanced margins, with perforations well clear of design all round, fiery rich color, an Extremely Fine gem, an exceptional superb centered stamp, in our opinion - a bit undergraded, with 2003 P.S.E. certificate Graded (XF 90, SMQ $1,000), with only seven graded higher (all at 95).
