Horizontal pair, margins large to just touching frameline at lower right, tied by indistinct Dec 31st cds on fresh cover to Greenville, Ga., with tan allover Robertson, Leslie & Co, Manufacturers of and Dealers in Dry Goods, Groceries…, Troup Factory, Geo. shaded ad, with original enclosure datelined "Troup Factory, Dec 29, 1862" with interest content…We have rec'd one box cards & have (2) others on the way from Charleston which is the 1st order for clothing for 10 card complete. They have got through the blockade. The other order is at Nassau & may 'get get' though., Very Fine, a nice advertising usage and blockade runner content.

Nov. 22" cds on cover to Fredericksburg Va., bold strike of "Held for Postage" circular handstamp, missing top flap, Very Fine, a Gem strike of this rare handstamp on cover, ex-Myerson & Powell, with 1974 P.F. certificate.

The cover was probably posted unpaid and held until the sender paid the postage, very rarely encountered with this marking on covers with stamps.

The firm of Cobia & Co. was a blockade runner in the Civil War. They owned the "Gem" that was active Aug. 1863 to Mar. 1865 and was 2 for 2 in successful trips.
