The illustrated circular shows an example of the Leeds & Franklin's Patent envelopes and a list of ten reasons for using them including security against impertinent intrusion. This circular was inside a Leeds envelope. A key item to the collector of patent envelopes.

1861, 3¢ rose, large plate mark error. Readily apparent below "Cents" in the margin, pulled perf., tied by circle of wedges cancel on yellow cover to St. Paul Minn., matching "Lesueur Minn. May 27" cds, 1864 docketing on reverse; small edge tear, F.-V.F.

There have been very few plate varieties noted on the 3¢ 1861 issue, this is the only recorded example of this one. It is a very unusual plate variety that has been written up in Linns, a copy of which is included with the lot.
