Ib, position 4R1E, a remarkably handsome example of this scarce type that only comes from the top row of plate 1, showing the full design characteristics at top which identify this type, large margins at sides as well, just in at bottom, bright and exceptionally pretty shade of blue that is found in the early state of this plate, and set on fresh white paper, black grid cancel, very fine for this and a desirable example of this scarce stamp; 1988 PF certificate. II, pen cancelled, both large margins to cut in used on 6c Nesbitt green on buff entire (#U14) from San Francisco (April 23) to Washington, Pennsylvania, cover bears large blue oval "Pacific Express Co./California/No. 124 Broadway N.Y." express handstamp together with the company's red "Paid" in oval handstamp, the Nesbitt cancelled on arrival in New York by "New York/May/24" datestamp with the 1c additionally bearing "Due 7," overstruck by a grid and "Due 4" handstamps, repeated on cover, small cover faults including staining at lower right, an interesting and scarce cover.
