Large margins to clear at top right, early impression, dark shade described on 1993 certificate as "Scott 1a, Dark Brown, in the family of Ridgway's Sepia (XXIX 17"-m)", tied by two strikes of blue "5" in circle handstamp, additional strike at right, and by matching "Philadelphia Pa. Oct 4" cds on 1848 blue folded letter to South Lee Mass.; some bleached stains along vertical file fold at center, Very Fine example of this rare shade, ex-Saadi, Gross, with 1993 and 2020 P.F. certificates.
