1840 1d Black Pl.4. Wonderful group of three plate 4 examples containing two large four margin examples (EI & QE) cancelled by crisp black and red MC's respectively. Offered with a spectacular Forgery lettered JC used on piece which has quite evidently larger corner letters. The Forgery is accompanied by a 1970 RPS Cert as a forgery. (Image)

1840 1d Black Pl.4. Superb used four margin example neatly tied to a printed advertisement wrapper sent from Newcastle Under Line to Groundslow, Trentham by a crisp red MC. Backstamped with a Newcastle Under Line cds for JY.11.1840. Sent by Lea & Cooper Ironmongers, Seedsmen & Co. regarding their "Nitrate of Soda for Manure, Lever Cheese Presses and Annatto for Cheese colouring". A magnificent example of a Victorian advertisement wrapper in exceptional quality, very rare to find in combination with the 1d black and without doubt one of the finest examples we have seen.
