1840 1d Mulready envelope, Forme 1 Stereo A135. Very fine used example sent from Alfreton to London neatly cancelled by a crisp orange-red MC, backstamped by a black Alfreton dispatch cds for MY.31.1840 (the fourth sunday) and a red London arrival datestamp for the following day. An attractive and scarce sunday “May date“ usage. (Image)

1840 1d Mulready lettersheet Stereo obscured. Very fine used example sent from London to Northampton cancelled by a crisp London No.10 MC. Bearing a internally printed advertising header for "Bot of Samuel Hanson & Son, Importers of Foreign fruits, oranges, lemons, nuts, raisins etc" (Spec. MA436b) with a manuscript invoice for grapes and prunes etc. A vertical filling fold left of cancellation nevertheless a presentable example of this difficult advert and cancellation combination. 1840 Mulready 1d wrapper (Forme 3, Stereo A67), addressed to the designer ‘W Mulready Esq RA, London’ and re-directed to his home address at ‘Kinders Grove Baywater’, cancelled by light red Maltese Cross and charged ‘1’ in manuscript, backstamped with a range of datestamps, the envelope with various retouches and additions to the design by the anonymous writer and inside a note simply stating ‘What an ass you must be to make such a thing’.
