1914-15 5mm Spacing '1d.' on 3pf brown with Double Overprint SG 16e [4, with Flat Top Serif on '1'], excellent centring, very lightly mounted, Cat £1500+. Peter Holcombe Certificate (1993) identifies the stamp as from the scarce Sixth Setting Robert Gibbs 16db priced "x5". Superb.

1915 'G.R.I./ 3d.' on German New Guinea Registration Labels Town Name in Seriffed Letters 'Kawieng/ (Deutsch Neuguinea)' SG 42 horizontal pair from the top of the sheet with Printer's Guide-Marks at the top of both units, the right-hand unit with some slightly trimmed perfs at the top, large-part original gum, Cat £500+.

POSTMARKS: 'BUKA/(DEUTSCH-/NEUGUINEA/16 11/14' cds (Powell #91) superb large-part strike in violet on 'G.R.I./1d.' on 3pf SG 16 (Cat £110). Rated F. The German cds saw limited philatelic use in the early days of the Australian Occupation. This use appears to predate the issue on 16.12.1914 of the 5mm Overprints, but the postal clerk had been unable to change the date slugs. Ex David Hopper.
