1920 (circa) complete perforated sheet of 20 different strident Prohibition labels (4x5; 138x220mm overall) including 'Alcohol/is meant for/Machines/not/Men', 'Prohibition/Protects/the/Home', 'Prohibition/Empties/the/ Gaols', 'Liquor/causes/20% of the/Lunacy' and 'Make/Australia/the First/Dry/Continent', etc, printed in black & dull orange on white paper, imperf at the edges, affixed to a page removed from one of the oddest collections we have ever handled (see Lot 2, in which we noted four single labels). We don't recall having previously seen even single labels. From the context of the album, probably South Australian. However, it may be connected with the 1921 or (less likely) 1925 Alcohol Referenda in Western Australia. (Image1)
