1856-S Liberty NGC AU55. Garrett & Guth, authors of the "Encyclopedia of US Gold Coins", mention that this issue was remarkably well-produced compared to gold coins from the other branch mints. Most entered circulation and are more worn than the attractive example presented here. A scarce issue as well with a mintage of only 72,120. 1870 Liberty PCGS AU53. With a modest mintage of only 4,520 the 1870 Quarter Eagle is considered a condition rarity.
