1844-C XF. Charlotte gold is very scarce in all grades, the 1844-C has a mintage of only 11,622 and most were heavily used in the channels of commerce. The rev is a bit weaker than the obv typical of the issue. Garrett and Guth note that "this date is of extremely poor quality w/ weak feather detail on the rev giving the appearance of wear even on coins with little or no circulation." The coin may have been lightly polished but it is still quite acceptable. A significant opportunity for those interested in rare gold. (Image)
