image 1862/63: 1 d. pink, two fine examples used on 1863 cover to Arequipa each tied by the network grill handstamp (Lamy & Rinck fig. 78) in black with "Lima / M" cds alongside (Jan 5). The two 1 dinero adhesives paying the single rate which was reduced on 15 January 1863 to 1 dinero for a single letter, regardless of distance; twinned with a further January 1863 cover bearing a single 1 d. in the red shade, similarly cancelled (Jan 11) and used to pay the 'Under 25 Leagues' rate, in this instance between Lima and Callao thence to Valparaiso. A fine and interesting pair. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image)

image 1862: Lecoq 1 d. pink, a diagonally bisected used example, lower right half, tied to 1866 cover to Lima by 'Callao' cds in black with diamond LIMA / QUINTA / DISTRIBUC.N handstamp (Lamy & Rinck fig. 52) in blue-black ink alongside. Reverse with Lima arrival cds (March 7). A scarce usage. Signed Holcombe Gi 14a = £ 350/Scott = $ 350.rnNote: On 1 January 1866, the single letter rate by Train on the Lima-Callao and Lima-Chorillos lines was reduced by half, to 5 centavos. image 1862/63: 1 d. pink, used examples (2) on a document dated 14 Oct 1867 from Cajatambo, used in lieu of 1866 Fiscal stamps which were unavailable in smaller towns such as Cajatambo; each one affixed to create the 'Sello Quinto' denomination of 20 centavos and cancelled in manuscript; also a further example circa 1868 with a single 1 d. green on front but the second page (which would have borne a further adhesive) is missing. Unusual and seldom seen, with no similar examples in recent collections (Eitner, Goeggel, Badaracco) sold through Corinphila. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image)
