image EARLY 20th C. & 1940-45 POSTAL HISTORY: Collection in 3 binders. Includes a selection of pre-1940 Danish issues with 'Star' cancels of various Faroese POs, group of 6 c.1912-39 cards & covers incl. 1922 Thorshavn to Svinoy via Klaksvik, 18 Jan. 1919 local env. with 2 x 5o green values, one of these surcharged locally "2", Sep. 1939 local env. redirected with use of scarce "EJDE" 'thimble cancel. Range of 1940-42 covers incl. 2 Apr. 1940 env. ex Thorshavn to Copenhagen, arriving 9 May via GB, Belgium or Holland, Berlin then Denmark, receiving both British & German Censor inspections. Arrival day before this route would have ceased! Also, 3 Jan. 1941 Censor from Denmark to Thorshavn endorsed "via New York"with both British & German Censor marks. A scarce & unusual cover. Also, 12 Dec. 1940 Censored commercial cover from Thorshavn to London, two other commercial covers to GB and 2 other 1942 covers ex Sorvaag & Thorshavn to GB franked with KGVI 'pale colour' defins. Two other binders house a collection of modern covers & PPCs with a wide range of small PO cancels, but also some early Paquebot covers incl. 6 Sep. 1930 cover from Iceland to Thorshavn with framed Thorshavn Paquebot cancels. image 1940/41 PROVISIONAL OVERPRINTS ON COVERS/PIECES: Group including 5 different opt. values on 5 Parcel Receipts (cut down into pieces), all but one in combination with other unoverprinted Danish issues. Opts are 20o on 15o red, 20o on 1o dark green, 20o on 5o claret, 50o on 5o claret and 60o on 6o orange. Lot also includes 2 local covers, one (certainly philatelic) bearing 60o on 6o orange with special Thorshavn handstamp "SPIS FAEROSK KLIPFISK" 21 Dec. 1940 (FDC), the other env. bearing 20o on 5o claret with Thorshavn 17 Mar. 1941 c.d.s (also FDC). image 1940-45 SERVICEMENS' MAIL: Group of 7 cards/covers either sent to (6) or received from (1) the UK Includes O.H.M.S. cover to Donnington Camp, Shropshire with framed "RECEIVED FROM/H.M. SHIPS" cachet and "FIELD POST OFFICE/219" (code *) dated Aug/Sep (unclear) 1941 in violet plus triangular Censor no. 1664 mark and similar 21 Aug cover between same COs but having the faint, but scarce, "PASSED BY CENSOR/[Crown]2149 cachet in violet. Also, 5 Dec. 1941 green 'Privilege' env. to Glasgow with clear F.P.O. 219 c.d.s. alongside "The Lovat Scouts" cachet in violet. Scarce.
