image ANTI-SLAVE SHIP PATROL COVER - EX H.M.S. 'SERPENT' AT BARBADOS EN ROUTE FOR THE AMAZON; Remarkable 16 Mar. 1834 EL (overall toning and some worn folds and a couple of closed tears around seal area but complete and sound) from "Wm. M. Mclure" the "Surgeon [on] H.M.S. Serpent, Barbados, West Indies" to his brother in Belfast with v. fine "DEAL/SHIP LETTER" on the front plus London (3 May) and "BELFAST" cds's on the flap. This ship later (29 June 1835) captured the Spanish slaver 'Tita' between Cuba & Turks with 394 slaves from Whydah on board (bound for Matanzas). A very early letter from a British anti-slave vessel.
