PACKET LETTER WITH THE CURVED-FRAME "MALTA" MARK; 27 Dec. 1806 EL from the 78th Regiment in "Syracuse" (taken by naval vessel to Malta and sent from there by the new Packet service) to Stirling with a mainly very fine curved-frame "MALTA" in Black on the front, charged "6/8" with 8/11 Apr. 1807 London/Edinburgh backstamps. No other pre-1807 covers with this 1st-Type framed "MALTA" mark have been recorded, and Proud gives the earliest recorded date as "Jan. 1807" (presumably also the date inside the letter).
