LETTER WITH ELEPHANT PRINT EX RAY LANKESTER; 1848-1911 covers/cards almost all with original contents (with GB frankings) to/from members of the Alexander family in GB inc. schoolboy letters (1848+) from Boyd or to Robert, and mostly to Herbert. Items noted include May 1902 env. (stains) ex Bath to Boyd Alexander with the "Harussa Force, Kintampo, via Cape Coast Castle", Sept. 1902 OHMS env. to Boyd with letter of thanks for his book on Gold Coast ornithology on behalf of Joseph Chamberlain (the env. signed "J. Chamberlain"), and large battered Mar. 1911 env. to Herbert with letter written & signed by the scientist (and one-time director of Natural History Museum) with enclosed off-prints of an Indian Elephant and a 200BC coin depicting an African elephant.
