1931 Health (SG.546-47) 1d+1d & 2d+1d Smiling Boys in corner marginal blocks of 15 (3x5), the 2d block with Sheet Number 'R528058', MUH. Impressive showpiece multiples. Ex Sir Gawaine Baillie (2006) & Lord Leonard Steinberg (2011).
The iconic "Smiling Boys" are the most celebrated of all the New Zealand health stamp issues. Issued at the height of the worldwide Depression, sales were disappointing with around 75,000 "Red" Boy & 112,000 "Blue" Boy selling in total. Surviving multiples larger than blocks of four are rare.
