1863, soldier's letter from "Camp Relief", Washington, D.C., a lengthy letter written shortly after Grant took Vicksburg and with notes of the battle in the letter. The soldier also notes that "a company from our regiment are the president's body guard", and regrets that General Lee had escaped (the battle of Gettysburg was 2 weeks prior).
