1897, 1 G blue 'Menelik II.', tied by bilingual cds Entotto, 25.8.97, on underpaid cover to Paris in France, charged with french 50 C lilac postage due (Mi.33x), on the frontside blue transit pmk Djibouti/Postes, 11.SEPT.97, maritime transit dater La Reunion a Marseille N°3, 12.SEP.97, and triangular "T" (taxation) handstamp in blue, arrival mark on reverse. Envelope with vertical fold slightly affecting the postage due stamp, otherwise F/VF condition. Very rare Ethiopian "pre-UPU" mail to foreign destination! (Image)

1906, Pre-UPU: 1/4 Gue. green surch '05' cent.(2), 1 Gue. blue surch '20' cent.(2), 2 Gue. darkbrown surch. 40 cent. new currency (1904 -07) and "Malekathe" ovpt (amharic) together with a 75 cent.stamp from OBOCK and 25 cent. from French Somali on great registered cover to ROCHE-s-YON / France. The ethiopian stamps tied by blue "HARRAR 3.6.6", the both other stamps tied "COTE SOMALI FRANCAISE 5.JUN 06". Typical mixed franking for cards and letters to Europa until 1908: the ethiopian franking for the domestic route, the Obock/Somali franking for the distance to Europe from Djibouti. Real authentic commercially used cover with faults, nevertheless a rare item of importance. Yvert 56-58, Obock 58, Cote des Somalis 60, certified by Bernard and Pascal Behr.
