Cape Town Ocean Post 1894-1911 group including 16 postcards mostly to the UK with a variety of frankings tied by mostly very fine 'CAPE TOWN/OCEAN POST OFFICE' cds identified by ship from the various code letters, ships pictured on the PPCs include the 'Saxon', 'Briton', 'Mexican', 'Norman', 'Armadale Castle' & 'Kenilworth Castle', also includes four PPCs from Madeira and one from Tenerife (1911; stated to be the latest known usage of such a canceller), plus a 1908 PPC with boxed 'PAQUEBOT' h/s and five unused PPCs showing Union Castle ships, condition generally fine to very fine.

Cradock: 'POST OFFICE/[crown]/CRADOCK' h/s (Jurgens Type 6) fine but watery strike on 1825 (circa) folded outer to "TTL Smuts/Secy de Weeskamer, Kaape Stad" [Secretary to the Orphan Chamber, Cape Town], rated "4[skilling]" for the inland letter rate to towns furthest from Cape Town, minor edge faults & aging marks. PO 1822. The postage charge in Dutch currency rather than British Sterling indicates this letter was sent prior to the 1826 Ordinance for the Better Regulation of the Post Office ... established revised postage rates in sterling, the rate from Cradock to Cape Town being 13d (1/1d) per single sheet.
