image 1711-1825 Netherlands East India Company (VOC; Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) Embossed Revenue Stamps commencing with 1711 Type 'C/24/VOC/St' [Stuiver] impressed on piece signed by notary H Cloete, various examples of 1714 '6 St' '12 St' '24 St' & '48 St' values plus '1½ RD' [Rix Dollar] (one of three known examples) '2 RD' & '3 RD' on pieces and complete receipts most with signatures alongside including De Chavonne (Governor) & C Bird (Colonial Secretary) plus six large-format documents with impressed values comprising 1714, 1717 & 1727 Land Grants with '24 St', 1719 Transport Contract with '24 St', 1737 Transfer of Land with '6 St' & 1750 Transfer with '48 St', then 1750 Type values including '6 RD' (one of two known), '10 RD' x2 (three known) including in combination with '8 RD', '12 RD' x2 (four known), '20 RD' (four known), '25 RD' (two known), '50 RD' (three known; one in the Cape Archives) & '60 RD' (three known), 1791 Type '6 St' on 1802 receipt, 1790 '36 St' on Land Grant and '6 RD' on 1799 receipt used during the First British Occupation, plus documents x18 with various values used during the Second British Occupation from 1806 and after the Cape was ceded to the British Crown in 1814 up to the use of COGH-inscribed Embossed Duty Stamps from 1825, also some additional pieces & duplicates, condition generally fine to very fine. image 1825 Somerset House Embossed inscribed 'CAPE OF GOOD HOPE' proof impressions x27 on a single sheet (320x195mm; watermarked 'SLADE 1824') from 3d to £50 including the values of £25 £30 £35 £40 & £45 which are stated to be unrecorded used on documents, a couple of contemporary pencil endorsements giving conversions to Stuiver & Rix Dollars, central folds, a few small edge faults & a some light aging marks. A remarkable item that apparently survived because it was used as a checklist in the Registrar's office.
