image BLACK OVERPRINT: 'P.' on Perf 11½-12½xRouletted 1/- bright red-brown, cut from the sheet to preserve the design at right, a few toned perf tips at the top, large-part o.g. Unlisted by Ron Butler (see note below) and only one other example, also unused, has been recorded so it should be rated RRRRR. Ron Butler at page 121 states that "a recently discovered single copy of [this stamp] was considered insufficiently convincing to include in the listing" but gives no reasons justifying that conclusion. This stamp is an enigma: there is no record of One Shilling stamps being issued to the Police Department. it is therefore believed to be a case of an Omitted Letter & Stop, either 'P.O.', 'P.S.' or 'P.W.'
